Sketches

Starting with the home page, create 15 sketches of possible layouts. Focus on focal point, vertical lines and spacial tention while including all the elements to make it functional. (header, nav, feature, footer, content, aside)

Sketch your three best layouts using a full 11×8.5 for each design. Approximate the scale of a web page when designing. Define each of the three layouts to include visual branding: color, texture, imagery & iconography, scale, perspective, depth and dimension.

InDesign Layouts

Looking at your best design, create a grid which will be used throughout the site. Determine if your grid should be columns, modular or hierarchical. Calculate dimensions for margins, columns and gutters.

Using the grid, layout all the functional elements, design features and user experience features for the home page.

If successful, layout designs for the rest of the pages. If several pages are similar, only the content is changing, so it’s not necessary to build several identical pages.
