perspective

  • Perspective creates dimension.
  • All you really need is a horizon line, vanishing points and guidelines to create the illusion of depth.
  • As objects get farther away, they become less defined, colors become less saturated and values become lighter.

horizon line : the horizon line represents a point of infinity–a point where the sky meets the ground.

vanishing point : a vanishing point represents a point where once parallel lines meet. The most simple example might be train tracks.

guidelines : additional guidelines will help insure accuracy

Review the diagram above. Using your ruler and pencil, recreate 1-point, 2-point and 3-point perspective using a horizon line, vanishing points, and guidelines.
